SNES: Anticoagulant bill passed!

By Ian Gilson, PhD, CFA

Gov. Gavin Newsom signed AB1788 on September 29, 2020 and it becomes effective Jan. 1 2021.

There are a few, but important, differences, to the original bill.

The bill as passed significantly restricts the use of second generation anticoagulant rodenticides, SGARs and applies “any wildlife habitat area.” This certainly applies to public and state or US government owned property but could also include public owned property.

There are few exceptions, the bill is essentially a ban on SGARs.

It will be administered in the field by the PMP unless the agency has an internal staff, as does San Francisco that is qualified to make the decision.
